If anyone happened to stare at the title of this post and think of maxi pads, as in it’s-that-time-of-month, I assure you you’re not the only one. As soon as I typed the words, I knew a clarification was necessary. I contemplated deleting it and coming up with something far more clever. But then I thought, naaaaaahhhhh. Too funny.
But onto the real dilemma. A few months ago, I found this amazing bright blue maxi skirt from Express. It is stunning and I adore the material. Problem was, I had no clue how to wear it. The second I brought it home, I tore apart my closet looking for the perfect tee or tank to pair with it. I tried black, white, patterned, frilly, sequined, fitted, flowing, loose, and every other descriptive term for a shirt you could possibly think of. These also happen to be descriptors for a drag queen show, but no matter. We shall move on.
Every single “outfit” I conjured left me looking like a cross between an Amish housewife and a frumpy school teacher. Even when I set the band of the skirt low on my hips, I felt like the female version of Aladdin‘s personal Genie. He has a beard. Not something a girl wants to emulate. So, my beautiful skirt was unwillingly tucked into the clasps of a hanger and shoved between a floral sundress and my flapper costume, never to see the light of day again. Sigh.
Then, just the other day, I pulled my baby out of its cave and decided to once again tackle the problem head-on. With a little google image inspiration, I pulled together this little summer look: a simple white tank tucked into the skirt and topped off with a wide black leather belt, a black over-the-shoulder purse, a pair of wedges, and my go-to fedora. Keep an eye out for more combos – I’ve made it my summer mission to get some miles outta this thing!
